Musée du Louvre and the Egyptian department

Image
I remember, in 2000, we nearly spent the whole day getting into the Louvre and then looking around. Source: https://presse.louvre.fr/ Of course, Mona Lisa was a must; we had to wait a minimum of 20-30 minutes in a queue to once stand in front of her, just for a short time to take a picture without flash. Then move on, as a lot of people wanted to do the same.  So my time with Mona Lisa was short, like her smile :) Source: https://www.louvre.fr/ The museum is huge! I only wanted to see the Egyptian department, so my 3,5 hours was only there... I had a friend who only talked all week about this department, so we started there, but then she left me after 5 mins :D :D :D So I did the whole Egyptian department alone, 3,5 hours :D :D :D without my group with my English and German knowledge, being only as a freshly 15 years old :D :D :D Nah, then I learned French :D :D :D The Guardian of Egyptian Art The Crypt of the Sphinx Source: https://www.louvre.fr/

Did you know that he was an expert in Asia? Source: https://lex.dk/ Source: https://www.alt.dk/ My favourite painting of the Prince is in Hillerød Castle, on the top floor in the museum. I bought this book a few years ago in Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen. When did I buy it? After an event with IDA, the Engineer Union... This book contains beautiful love poems.

Tours, Balzac

Image
Balzac Museum Source: https://www.touraineloirevalley.co.uk/ Why was this museum extra important for me? Of course, I wanted to know more about Balzac, but in the boutique I learned one of the most important things. That helped me study French better. In 2000, I  knew English well, and I was a beginner in the German language. I wanted to speak both languages in the boutique. But they explained to me that in France, we speak French. They understand English and German as well, but if you want a real conversation, that means that you will learn something interesting, not just where the toilet is... Then you need to learn French first, then you can make your questions... So, who was Balzac? Honoré de Balzac Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/ Nope, I will not write a summary about him as I would do it in the gymnasium leaving exam. But I will tell, that he wrote Le Père Goriot (Old Father Goriot, 1835). And yes, even that time Goriot talks about Ukraine... yes...

Paris Catacombs, where I never went in, but cannot stop to think about

Image
Source: https://www.catacombes.paris.fr/ I visited Auschwitz, and I heard a lot about the Georgian genocide after the WWI. But I never dared to go inside the Catacombs of Paris.  I heard about this place first time from my parents, they visited it.  As both of them are medical doctors, it was probably easier for them to see than a regular person.  What is this place? - a  labyrinth in the heart of underground Paris - extra cemetery, why? "major public health problems tied to the city's cemeteries led to a decision to transfer their contents to an underground site." - https://www.catacombes.paris.fr/ How many body was buried or packed there? "a dark and ghoulish space filled with the bones of over six million people" - https://www.wikiwand.com/ Is it something new, or can you find similar things in History in other places as well? Do you know the book? - In the Darkest of Days by Matthew J. Walsh, Sean O'Neill and Lasse Sørensen Source:...

Musée Rodin, how good is a kiss?

Image
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/ In so many cultures and religions, Love is captured by stories, poems, paintings, food, songs, sculptures, and a lot of other ways. But how do you want to explain to teenagers what a good kiss looks like? Auguste Rodin knew it. He made the perfect kiss sculpture. Auguste Rodin: The Kiss (French: Le Baiser), 1889 Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/ In 2000, around Halloween on an early foggy morning, we arrived at the Musée Rodin, where we were asked to see all the beautiful sculptures by Rodin. And learn what a good kiss looks like :) But where is it now? There are replicas all over the world; you can find one in Tokyo, some in Paris, and a lot more places. Where more?  "A third replica was commissioned in 1900 by Carl Jacobsen for his projected museum in Copenhagen, Denmark. The replica was made in 1903, and became part of the initial collection of the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, inaugurated in 1906." - https://en.wikipedia.org/ "I...

Tivoli or Fun parks? Disneyland Paris

Image
Source: https://www.threads.com/ I was in Disneyland Paris in 2000. I only loved one ride, that was a rocketship to shot us to space. I am not a Minnie Mouse type. Why? I was watching her for several years every night in my bed as a decoration. So when I arrived at Disneyland, it was just regular for me, as I saw Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck as a decoration every night... So when my older son was only 3 years old, there was a Scottish mother who wanted to tell me that it was worth taking her family to Disneyland, when her daughter was also only 3 years old... My guess, that it was the first time for the mother... I took million times my kids to Tivoli in Copenhagen, and twice to Legoland near Billund, Denmark.  For me, the only one exciting was when in the old times, they still served the Chaplon teas in a proper way in Tivoli...
